Alex is an interesting guy, obviously a young man with a bright future (one of the founders of this amazing venture). I was intrigued by this tour having visited Central Asia a couple of times. I learned a lot, and my wife learned even more. I felt at ease with Alex because he seemed to be enjoying himself. And the food we eventually had was very tasty and not too costly (and Alex paid for his own food). Finally, I liked that he was flexible about dates and times for the tour due to the fact that we were only in St. P. a short time and had already booked other Sputnik tours.

Pros:
The St Petersburg roof top tour is a must, if for no other reason than it wouldn't be allowed in most places in the world.
It was fascinating and so unique. Our tour guide was a polite girl who was easily the warmest person we met in St. P. It was nice to talk to her as we walked to the roof sites.

Cons: Our guide seemed a bit bored at times once we were on the roofs - maybe one too many tours? We also had to wait about 20 minutes at the second location before going up which meant that we missed the sunset. The reason for this wait was entirely justified (because the man who lived in the apartment building, who has the key to the roof, was waiting for some others) but it was not explained to us at the time, so it was frustrating. Also, wear jeans or dark clothes because the roof is not a clean place.

Summary: I would do this again, definitely. It was worth the price and a great way to spend a couple of hours in an evening.

Sasha accompanied us on a city tour of St Petersburg that my wife and I were pleased with. She is polite and knowledgable. Considering our tour was seven hours we felt the price she asked was very good value. We were also relieved that she met us at our hotel to begin the tour, as this meant we didn't need to rush to get anywhere.

Expect a lot of walking. The path in the description is accurate, but St Petersburg is BIG. We had sore feet by the end! If there's one change we would have made it's that we would have spent the last hour in St Isaac's cathedral, which we didn't go into with Sasha but now wish we had done. As Sasha says her tour price doesn't include tickets either for you or for her, but I think this is fair, and Sasha more than makes up for this by adding information once inside (so, for example, our visit to Spilled Blood church was enhanced by the details she added. I expect she could have done the same in St Isaac's cathedral). If I could give one tip it's to have an idea of the time frame for lunch. I felt we spent too much time at lunch and would have preferred something quicker, although the food was very tasty and Sasha of course helped us to order it.

Irina is so lovely. I signed up for the "Stadium to Stadium" tour but in fact what Irina provided was a high energy, seven hour tour of beautiful Kiev. She is personable, intelligent, informed, sensitive, patient and *really* fit. Her energy is endless. Irina really sincerely cared whether I was enjoying the tour and (at the end) whether I was happy. When I said "It was perfect, exactly what I was hoping for" her joyful reaction was fully sincere. I want to return to Kiev, but when I do I have to be sure that Irina is free, because if she is not around, I will change the date! My day in Kiev was really special, and I have Irina to thank for this.

Anna is a real professional. First of all, after we arrived nearly an hour late, she showed no visible annoyance to us. I would recommend to anyone booking any Sputnik tour to be sure to exchange mobile numbers both ways before the tour (after the deposit is paid) because our mobiles weren't working to contact her about being late.

Secondly, Anna is someone who doesn't just appreciate art and design (as we do), but has made it a lifelong pursuit. Her knowledge and talents were a bit wasted on us, because we didn't come on the tour looking to buy specific antiques. But even then she used her skills to pick up some things which were not expensive but really unique and worth keeping, and I feel we have some experiences and tangible items that we wouldn't have if we had not taken her tour.

I would definitely recommend her tour, especially for anyone who is serious about antiques and art.
