Futuristic Buildings
The Soviet building works of the 1920s was something that amazed foreigners: it was hard to believe that after enduring the civil war the Russians would begin building a “brave, new world” using architectural forms never witnessed before in a style known as “constructivism”. There is a single square on Manhattan-like grid of avenues and streets of Vasilievsky Island that tells the story of the rise and fall of the most creative artistic style of the 20th century, whose philosophy anticipated almost all future architectural movements from brutalism to hi-tech. You will explore the "Red Nail-Maker" plant, Kirov Workers' Club, a catering factory and a lot more utopian buildings.
That is why if it’s inspiration you need, you cannot afford miss the futuristic buildings tour.
It is a pleasant 20-minute walk from the meeting point at Vasileostrovskaya metro station to the first building on route, or the group can take a public bus (25 roubles per person).
