History lesson Among Gravestones
Is there something in Budapest that seldom makes it onto top-10 lists of must visit sites but still is worth a visit. Indeed there is. For example Fiumei graveyard. Sounds somewhat gloomy or maybe even scary, but in fact it is more of a park, scattered with beautiful gravestones and providing a valuable insight into Hungarian history of the latter two centuries.
What is there for us to see and do?
We’ll see a hearse for the state funerals, huge and ornate beyond imagination, the second largest in the world;
We’ll talk that you may honour a national hero and have revenge on him in the similar manner;
Who has taught all of us to wash our hands (and his postmortem travels).
We will talk about some XIX century poetry and modern politics,
And last but not the least we will have a chance to see the most wild and romantic part of the cemetery before it is renovated.
Any day, any time before 1.30pm
